Instructions given to check those selling milk products
Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-
Haryana Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao has emphasized that ensuring pure and safe food for the public during the festive season is the state government’s top priority. She has issued strict instructions to department officials to take stringent action against anyone found selling adulterated or fake food items.
The Health Minister said that during festivals, demand for milk, milk products, and sweets rises sharply, creating opportunities for anti social elements and some traders to compromise quality, which poses serious risks to public health. To prevent this, all Health Department officials have been directed to carry out surprise inspections in their jurisdictions.
She said that sweet shops, dairies, factories producing packaged milk products, and other food establishments will be particularly monitored. Officials are required to conduct inspections regularly, collect samples of suspicious items, and ensure that vendors found guilty are dealt with without leniency.
The Minister reiterated that the health and safety of the public are the state government’s primary responsibility and that negligence will not be tolerated. She also urged the public to immediately report any instance of adulterated food to health department authorities.
On the occasion, the Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration Department reported that the department has conducted extensive inspections so far in 2025. Between January 1 and August 31, a total of 1,289 samples were collected, of which 987 were compliant while 302 failed. Strict action is being taken against shopkeepers and vendors involved in the failed samples in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner added that the ongoing campaign is increasingly effective in curbing the sale of adulterated food in the state, and warned that no shopkeeper or food business will be allowed to compromise public health.
